There are so many ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day, and this simple DIY project is one of them! Making up your own Valentine’s Day Treat Bags is simple to do, and is a fantastic project that you can enjoy with your family and friends. I already had about half of the supplies I needed from leftover projects, so this is not an expensive project to do. Instead of using bags, you could also use miniature boxes. My choice were the bags, as each recipient would then be able to easily tote their goodies away!
- Striped and heart design treat bags (I used 5¼ ” x 4″ bags)
- Decorative scrapbook or cardstock paper
- Valentine’s Day paper straw kit, which includes straws & flags (hearts)
- Red or pink ribbon
- Red and pink felt and/or foam heart shapes
- Craft knife
- Glue gun, or crafts glue
- Decorative shredded paper
- Desired wrapped treats or goodies
Before you get started, there is one thing you should know about how the ribbon is wrapped around the bag. You take one end of the ribbon and insert it into the slit on the left (top to bottom), take it behind the bag and wrap it all around … until you come to the top of the bag again. Insert the ribbon into the second slit, from the bottom up. From there, you will have two ends of ribbon from which you can make your bow!
For one of the bags, I did make an attempt at putting a paper straw “arrow” through one of the hearts … just as dear ole’ Cupid might do. I basically drew two shapes that I thought might look like an arrowhead and the end fletching of an arrow. I did not have a template for this, so I did my best at freehanding. The glue came in handy during this process, and that was for attaching the arrow pieces around the paper straw. I truly liked the result, though I will be the first to admit that this part was a bit more time-consuming.
Tip to remember – you will need to make the arrow pieces while the straw is already inserted through the heart. If you make both of the pieces first, without attaching the straw to the bag beforehand, you won’t be able to insert the straw later without tearing up either the bag, or the arrow pieces.
Once your Valentine’s Day Treat Bags are completed, you could either fill them with individually wrapped candies, a mini-heart box of chocolates … or something else. Perhaps you prefer nutritious and wholesome goodies. These adorable Treat Bags will accommodate anything you deem appropriate. Or, you could simply place them on the table and let your family and friends fill them up themselves with a supply of treats and goodies you have provided. Either way, you just can’t go wrong with these adorable Valentine’s Day Treat Bags! Once received, I feel confident you will become everyone’s favorite Cupid. ♥
