Soaking in a warm tub of water on a cold winters day might just be the perfect remedy for a case of the winter blahs. Did you know that bubbles help insulate the water – which in turn help insulate your body? It’s true! Recently, I could hear my tub getting restless. “When was the last time you had a good, long soak?” it moaned. It was at this point that I decided to make my own DIY Bubble Bath, and soak in better health on a cold wintry night.
I found this great recipe online, reportedly from a book published from Janice Cox – author of Natural Beauty at Home. It took mere minutes to whip up this DIY Bubble Bath. When I stirred it all together, it looked like a glistening pot of gold waiting for some worthy soul. It was so beautiful that I even imagined Cleopatra would have bathed in it. The morning sun was coming through my window when I made this, and the sun’s rays cast a beautiful glow on the bowl of suds. That little bit of honey I added must have supplied some glorious color and magic. I couldn’t wait to see how it was going to feel on my skin!
The great thing about making your own DIY Bubble Bath is that you can choose whatever cleanser you prefer (be it hand or body cleanser). I used ½ cup of the hand cleanser, and poured it into a glass bowl. I then added 1 tablespoon of honey and one egg white. That is all the ingredients you will need! Pour the entire mixture under running water as you draw your bath.
Honey is a natural ingredient, which will attract and retain moisture in your skin. The egg white helps create stronger and longer-lasting bubbles. If you have extra-dry skin, consider adding a tablespoon of light oil – such as almond or light sesame.
If you don’t want to make your own bubble bath or foaming bath mixture, there are some great products currently on the market. For those folks that want all natural ingredients, with no artificial fragrances, Divine Botanics Bath Bombs would be a wonderful option. A nice bonus about using organic elements is that there will be no stains around the bathtub afterwards. Many of the ingredients boost natural healing, like Coconut Oil and Shea Butter.
One of my favorite products is Dr. Teal’s Foaming Bath with Pure Epsom Salt. It has the most delightful aroma and makes the entire house smell wonderful! This product has Eucalyptus in it, which helps stimulate the senses and aids in clearing congestion. The Epsom Salt is also beneficial for sore muscles, all of which is very restorative and good for your body. I especially like using this foaming bath in the evening, as it helps me unwind and get to sleep faster.
Make sure you give yourself at least ten minutes to soak, which will give your muscles and mind enough time to relax. Enjoy. ♥
