We’ve all been there. After many uses we find that our salt and pepper shakers are starting to look cloudy and dull-looking. They need a good cleaning. No problem … until you realize that the shaker neck openings are extremely small. “How in the world am I going to get anything in there?” you ask. While one option would be to simply rinse the shakers out, that is not going to truly clean them. They need a good scrubbing, yet nothing so harsh that it scratches the glass.
Quite a while ago I bought an OXO Good Grips Water Bottle Cleaning Set. It is a three-piece set consisting of one long bottle brush, a straw brush, and a detail cleaner. I had originally bought the cleaning set because I needed a bottle brush; however, it was not long before I learned how valuable and versatile the straw brush was! While the straw brush is great for cleaning straws, it is just as fabulous for cleaning out my narrow neck shakers!
The brush action allowed the shaker to become really clean. So clean, in fact, that it sparkled like new. Even though I discovered this solution by accident, it is always wonderful when you learn that a tool may be used for multiple purposes. There are a variety of straw cleaners out there on the market. I personally love the OXO Good Grips Water Bottle Cleaning Set, which has worked perfectly for me – in more ways than one!
