Did you know that animal lovers worldwide donate approximately 3 million hours of their time each year to zoos and aquariums? Duties range from caring for the animals to assisting with exhibits and more.
Right here in Tampa we have the #1 Zoo in the USA for kids, rated by Parents and Child Magazines! It is the Lowry Park Zoo, and it features more than 1,500 animals on 56 acres of lush, natural habitats in seven main exhibit areas. There are also water play areas, rides, educational shows and restaurants.
The best news is that there are wonderful Lowry Park Zoo volunteer opportunities for people of all ages! They have youth development programs, special event and group volunteer opportunities, adult volunteers for administrative and operations departments, and a docent program.
If you are being beckoned by the Calls of the Wild – and are serious about dedicating some of your time and energy to the zoo – please call (813) 935-8552 or visit the Lowry Park Zoo today. They are located at 1101 W. Sligh Avenue in Tampa, one mile west of I-275 (exit 48).
If you don’t live in Tampa, there are plenty of zoos nationwide that offer family and teen/junior programs during the summer. Go to aza.org to search by state or zip code for opportunities near you.
