Since cherries are only available for a limited time, we need to take advantage of them now. They seem to pop up in our area right before summer time. We consider cherries to be one of our favorite June crops. Not only are they delicious, but they are also beautiful to look at! You can enjoy them in a variety of ways – from adding them to cake batter, turning them into syrup for waffles or pancakes, and even adding them to pork, steak or chicken.
If you tend to forgo buying cherries because of the pits, there are a few easy ways to make this task very easy. My favorite tool is the OXO Good Grips Cherry Pitter. I have been using it for a few years now, and it is still going strong.
If you don’t want to buy a tool to pit cherries, you could also use a chopstick to push the pit out. Or, you could simply smash the cherries with your hand, using a spoon to remove the pit. The last option does not cost you anything; however, I don’t find the task that enjoyable. It is also the messiest method, and takes the most time.
