What could be better than to celebrate an American holiday with a product that was made in America years ago? July 4th does not always have to be centered around paper plates. This patriotic dessert was served in Fostoria dessert dishes – the “American” pattern, and quite appropriate for July 4th.
Why not serve your refreshments in a dish worthy of the red, white and blue?
I still am not sure how something so simple can turn into something so exquisitely beautiful, but it does. Take one box of blue-flavored Jell-O and pour the finished product into four Fostoria American dessert dishes. The end result is a refreshing and simple dessert that looks “berry” patriotic. The color is big, bold and beautiful.
Adding a layer of Cool Whip to the top changes the color even further. Every time you take a bite, you are mesmerized by the beauty. The cube design of the Fostoria American dish gives the illusion of different shades and colors – all depending on your light source. Very pretty.
While I don’t recommend serving these dishes to small children, adults will relish in the gesture. We all know that July 4th is focused around fireworks, picnics, and fun activities outdoors; however, that does not mean everything has to be served on paper dishes and in plastic cups. Nothing is more patriotic that serving a berry-blue classic dessert like Jell-O in an American-made dish.
The American line of dishes are highly sought after. Most people have them in storage or on display, or tucked safely in a closet somewhere. You need to take one of these beauties out for a spin every now and then. They are too gorgeous not to. How else can you admire the beauty and workmanship of this by-gone era?
No matter what Fostoria dessert dish you use – the end result is super simple and super beautiful! Mix your recipe up with strawberries and/or raspberries, red/white/blue sprinkles, Cool Whip and Jell-O. Anything red, white or blue in color will turn these empty Fostoria American crystal dishes into a patriotic masterpiece.
Use your imagination to come up with a simple and beautiful dessert for your family. I used only minimal ingredients, with no cooking or baking. It’s cool and refreshing – all things needed on a hot summer day. The moral of this story is – simple can be beautiful.
