How to Make a Peppermint Plate

DIY | Peppermint Plate | They make great bases for delicious holiday confections!

The holidays are here, and now is the time when treasured moments and wonderful memories are made.  If you are wanting to make an impression that family and holiday guests won’t soon forget, then you should consider making this easy and edible Peppermint Plate!  It is a fun DIY project, simple to do, and requires few ingredients. Once baked and cooled, the Peppermint Plate should stay fresh for about two weeks – if kept wrapped or stored in an air-tight container.

You only need a couple of things to make it, and they are the following:

  • 16 oz. bag of peppermints
  • Heavy-duty aluminum foil
  • 10″ springform pan, or any other 10″ round pan

Peppermint Plate | How to Make One | Start by wrapping a 10" springform pan with aluminum foil.The first thing you want to do is heat your oven to 350 degrees.  Next, line your pan with a sheet of aluminum foil.  Make sure you cover it completely, and make it as smooth as possible.  I usually use the bottom of a 10″ springform pan, as pictured here.  It has low sides and is very easy to work with.

Unwrap your mints.  If you come across any that are broken, set those aside.  Any brand or flavor of mints should work.  For my project, I used Brach’s Star Brites.

After you have unwrapped the mints, you will need to place a row of peppermints close together around the outside edge of the foil-wrapped pan.  From there, continue to add rows of peppermints within the circle until the entire pan is covered.  For best results, do not overcrowd.  Leave a little bit of space around each mint, as they will need this void space once they start to melt.

They make beautiful bases for delicious holiday confections ♥Place the pan in the oven and bake for about 10 minutes (until the mints have melted and spread together).  Baking times might vary according to your oven and climate.  Transfer pan to a cooling rack; let it sit untouched until it has cooled completely.  Once cool, remove the peppermint plate from the pan and gently pull off the aluminum foil.  It should peel right off, leaving no residue.  A word of caution – handle the peppermint plate with care or you run the risk of breaking the candy.

The cooled Peppermint Plate needs to be placed on a flat and sturdy plate, tray, or cake stand.  I like to put mine on a vintage crystal cake stand, and the end result is quite magical.  Cakes, cookies, and other Christmas confections look truly delectable sitting on this Peppermint Plate.
